I'm mad, you're mad' 'How do you know I'm mad? It's the most curious thing I ever saw in my life! I fixed it to be more topical That's dumb Makes no sense. Posted here on Friday. Not one comment though » Enable DVR on att u-verse boxes.
If they limit one DVR per household then they should only give them one per household. If you give people disabled boxes they will find away around it. You are better off giving them a box without the functionality at all.
Yeah and thinking is what got them into this mess. Emergency firmware update to be released soon that will disable the hard-drive functionality in these boxes. They are probably waiting for an enhancement to their billing system to give them the option to bill for more than one DVR per account?
Mr Anon k I too do not know why ATT would take the time to do this, maybe because to lessen the number of peole complaining about the confusion of only one stream per box right now.
Meaning no record and watch at the same time. The tech would be sure to explain that to whomever was home but if the only person home was the teen 18 so it legal to have them sign but the partnes weren't. WOuld the parents listen to them about the box in their room?
I think the hack is nice but I want tsomeone to go further, to see if perhaps A loger drive, if so what. Etc etc. Other gray area stuff like Then it would not matter what drive you stick in there. Not saying to do this, but It would not suprise me if it was done already now seeing this. AnonProxy Premium Member join If they see multiple "record streams" you lose all access. If it's "Disabled", it's not like anyone will notice, and if they do, it's not like they can pin it on the user who can simply claim it came that way.
Premium Member join Bradenton, FL. This is true, unless there is a little sticker at one of the seams like the Sony Playstation. So they know if you opened the box or not. I simple hair dryer will cause the glue on that sticker to come loose! I know this from experience when I modded my xbox and some other things around here! I think you hit the nail on the head.
They just don't want multiple video streams running all the time due to network limitations. They are capable of one stream, but, removing the DVR functionality reduce the network load becouse the users can only record one program at a time. Even if the user is at home he can only DVR one. So this limitation will cause starvation!
Oh, no! Eat something! Order take-out! Save yourself!! You cant watch it live or watch it live and record it. The only savings is if you turn the box off, but then there are no streams going to the box. I have 3 of these boxes here, I know how they work. So are you saying that you cannot just select a channel on the STB and watch it live? If you can, then the load is identical because people will almost always turn off the TV, not the STB.
How come? I can understand the bandwidth requirement being lower if the program could be streamed over a longer period of time, but if it's recorded in real time it shouldn't make any difference if someone is watching it or not. This makes the move even less comprehensible.
So they just pull the plug, easy as pie. They just stock them ready to go, then if someone orders 2 they pop it open and pull the plug. What size are these harddrives. Anyway, this hack just made me smile! Nothing like uncrippling a device with a mere minute or two of work. How sweet it is! Wow you gotta love when companies take for granted that the people using them will have no technical knowledge. They had to figure someone would crack it open sometime. The sad part is that for the most part they are right, people would have no idea.
Anyway works out better for us in the know. Btw if everyone is so bothered by steves comments so much which btw im not because even if i was i could always just skip over them then why does everyone mention him so much.
Maybe they intended to start making upgrades? Well if you want to make this a really good hack. Make a way to put a good size in there. That is the real hack here. Wow, iam stunned by so hardcore high-tech stuff. How great. This is crap! How did he even figure all this stuff out. Also, this article is to point out the stupidity of corperations, they could have saved a large ammount of money not installing the hard drives at all assuming there large and offering an upgrade, instead they leave it inside of the DVR, and hope that nobody pops open the hood to find a free hard drive how long have these been out now, one month, two?
If you have knowledge you believe is of value which you wish to share with the HAD community, then do so with grace. We all have areas of ignorance, and we teach and learn by sharing with each other.
They could have had their reasons. He just did the exact thing the trolls here do. Att is a rip off I do not condone any business with att they have bad tactics and service u guys go play with their shitty hardware software and service. Unless things have changed since I stopped working on U-verse, I highly doubt he has anything to worry about. So I have a 2Wire iV. Anybody know if anything similar can be done to put this into true bridged mode?
I already have my internal router in the DMZ of the 2Wire but as others have said this is still routed. Actually this is a last ditch effort. It uses some sort of load balancing but since I got it, the first pair seems to work but as soon as their is any real load i. At first they were useless in helping me until I put in a complaint with the BBB and then they started caring hint for those not getting the proper service.
So to make a long story short they have not been able to correct the problem that they even admit to. They have tried rerunning the lines to my house and changing pairs from their node to my telephone pole with no success. All this after even having switched to their VoIP service as well which also did not go smoothly. It has been a nightmare. How I wish I had Fios in my area.
Ok, I have a couple of questions. I am having the best luck with this model one then all the others ones…It has lasted the longest so far. Hipp Hipp Horray LOL I have a question to the guy about the filter capacitors and want to know what it did for him and what are the exact caps I would need to have to put on the board? Also, how do I go about doing the hacks that are briefly explained above that lead me to this blog in the first place?
Any help would be very much appreciated!
