The CDM Advanced High Speed Trunking Modem Figure 1 1 is intended for network operators, enterprise users, and service providers requiring maximum throughput while using minimal satellite resources in point to point links. The CDM architecture allows efficient networking and transport over satellite links while supporting a wide range of applications and network topologies.

All non volatile memory is provided by both onboard and Compact Flash devices. This design provides carrier class reliability and high speed, purpose driven processing.

On the Tx transmit side: Transmit data from the Ethernet interface is converted for further processing. Synchronous data interfaces are mapped into the DVB S2 frame directly. Transmit data from non IP interfaces, like the G. In MultiStream mode, all data interfaces are encapsulated in the low overhead GSE structure and multiplexed to form an aggregated carrier. The data is sent to the Rx side of the Ethernet interface for user access via an RJ 45 connector.

Similarly, MultiStream traffic is decapsulated and demultiplexed to form the original data streams. Verification: The CDM includes many test modes and loopbacks for rapid verification of the correct functioning of the unit. Of particular note is the IF loopback, which permits the user to perform a quick diagnostic test without having to disturb external cabling.

During the loopback, all of the receive configuration parameters are temporarily changed to match those of the transmit side, and an internal RF switch connects the modulator output to the demodulator input.

When normal operation is again selected, all of the previous values are restored. Monitor and Control Interfaces: The unit is managed through multiple interfaces providing options for both in band and out of band monitor and control.

On site Firmware Updates: Field update of the operating system firmware is possible through file upload via satellite or the Ethernet port. Handles at the front allow easy placement into and removal from a rack. The unit can be free standing if desired. This plug in daughter card can either be factory installed at the time of ordering, or field installed by the user. Appendix D. An optional K4 GZip lossless compression card plugs into an internal expansion slot on the modem card. The equipment must be connected to the protective earth connection at all times.

It is therefore imperative that the unit is properly grounded, using the ground stud provided on the unit rear panel, during installation, configuration, and operation. External cables are attached to connectors provided on the rear panel of the unit Figure 1 4. The CRS may not be used with any other data interface, nor can it be used for redundancy in MultiStream mode.

Requires the two carriers in a duplex circuit to share a common frequency. Different symbol rates are. Positive values represent a stronger. Interferer Carrier, and negative values represent a stronger Desired Carrier. Use ESD precautionary procedures when handling the equipment.

Proceed to Sect. In a rack system where there is high heat discharge, provide forced air cooling with top or bottom mounted fans or blowers. Mount the CDM in its assigned position in the rack enclosure. Use, as required:. Follow these steps to install the Radyne style chassis kit:. Slide the CDM into the front of the rack enclosure.

Follow these steps to install the rack slides:. Ensure that the slides properly engage the enclosure-mounted slide rails. Continue to slide the modem into the enclosure to its final operating position. Then, use. Each cable type is typically dedicated to a specific mode of operation.

Not all of these operational interface types may be available with this product. This lockdown design provides secure assembly without over tightening the connection.

The plug shell features internal threads, and has either a knurled outer surface to permit hand tightening of the connection, or hex flats to accommodate torqued installation.

Then, turn the plug clockwise until the jack posts are fully seated within the plug slot. Do not over tighten the connection. BNC plugs and jacks feature a Bayonet Coupling design. The connector pair features multiple rows of pins male side coupled to mating sockets female side. The cable plug and chassis receptacle each feature a D shaped profile that interlock to ensure proper pin orientation and connector seating.

Either chassis receptacle gender features two jack nuts for secure assembly of the cable plug to the chassis receptacle. Whether its gender is male or female, the cable plug features two jack screws for secure connection to the jack nuts provided on the mating chassis receptacle. The jack screws may be hand tightened or tightened with a standard flat blade screwdriver. Connection Instructions: Orient the plug to the receptacle in the proper position.

Press firmly into place. Use the jack screws to secure the plug to the receptacle jack nuts. Do not over tighten. Circular connectors are intended for weatherproof outdoor applications. The connector pairs feature a sleeve lock configuration, with an array of pins male side coupled to mating sockets female side. Connection Instructions: Engage all of the alignment and lock features between the male connector on the interconnection cable and female socket e.

Engage the primary and secondary alignment tabs on the male connector with the mating cutouts on the female socket. Push the male connector into the female socket. The plug for an RJ 45 or RJ 48 cable features a flexible tab.

The RJ 45 or RJ 48 jack features a mating slot. This design configuration assures proper installation and pin orientation. Connection Instructions: Press down the tab on the cable plug, and then insert the plug into the RJ 4 x jack.
