As mentioned, I ignored them, looks working. I had a Trackpoint issue on my Dell Latitude e where only the left button single click on the trackpoint would not function properly. I had resolved the issue through configuring the trackpad software and BIOS settings and everything was fine. Then something happened and it stopped working. I then tried removing the trackpad and re-installing it and that failed.
I looked online for a solution after a couple of frustrating hours and came across your post. Ran the SFC command and Powershell command and now have resolved the issue. Is it ok to try these steps in Windows 7? HAs it worked for anyone on W7? Your clear instructions solved my problem of the left click not working on my mouse. As the red warnings about this or that problem began to accumulate, I got a little nervous but I went ahead and ran the scan.
Just like that the problems were fixed and my Start menu was back,. I jst used the first Powershell solution. It worked! Thanks Bob! Thanks again, very decent of you!
Thankyou so much. Exactly that problem, left click not working on some buttons in the start menu. Maybe you should update the instructions? Something needs fixing pretty much every 3 days or so. Hi Jody, Thanks for the comment!
The old PC Vs. Apple on the other hand make a comparatively small range of hardware and write the drivers for it. Your email address will not be published. Powershell will re-register all the packages now. If you see any warnings in the process, just ignore them. There is also a chance it could be a problem with a corrupted Windows system file or an update. Microsoft support has a handy article on how to fix and replace corrupted system files and Windows update files.
You can refer to this article to try to fix any system or Windows update files that might be causing the issue. Here you will see all the Windows update files with the recent one on top. If the left-click is missing clicks or acting weirdly, then there is a chance that a key on the keyboard might be pressed and stuck. Left mouse click works differently if there is a key pressed on the keyboard, such as Ctrl , Spacebar , Shift , etc.
Press all the keys on the keyboard and make sure there are no keys stuck. If you are on a laptop and using an external mouse, then turn off the touchpad on the laptop. There is a chance the touchpad might be interfering with the external mouse. There should be a button near the touchpad to turn it off. Just uninstall all the programs that were added right before you faced the issue and see if it solves the problem. You can uninstall one program at a time to find the culprit.
The above solutions may be able to fix this issue as well — especially the solution 4 — but a corrupt driver is the most common reason for the left-click not working at all. The "Device Manager" will open up and you will be able to see all your hardware devices here. Here move to the Mice and other pointing devices option and press the " right arrow " key on your keyboard to expand it. Now right-click on HID-compliant mouse option and select "Update driver software". On the next page, select Search automatically for updated driver software option and Windows will automatically update the driver.
Afterward, disconnect the mouse and restart the PC. When the PC boots completely, connect the mouse again and let it reinstall its driver. This should fix the left mouse click.
You don't have to run to the repair shop every time your PC ends up with an issue At whatever interval it feels inclined, whenever I would single click — Windows Vista would register a double click.
It would then take several single click attempts before Vista Business would finally register a single click and not another double click.
In case software settings within Windows Vista or another program had gone astray, I went through a few different sections of basic Windows configuration to restore default settings such as Folder Options single click to open an item and also restored the mouse settings via the Control Panel without any success.
With that in mind, I also tried uninstalling the current version of Microsoft IntelliPoint and separately changing my mouse drivers back to a standard mouse — neither of which helped.
I thought something may have changed on my computer with a Windows Update or some other software.
